At Bloodline Golf, we are dedicated to helping golfers of all levels enjoy the game a little more. Whether you're a seasoned player looking to fine-tune your skills or a beginner just starting out, we believe golf should be fun and accessible. Our focus is on creating equipment and strategies that simplify the game and make it more enjoyable for everyone.
For beginners, the benefits can be even greater. Starting out in golf can feel overwhelming, but we aim to remove that intimidation by offering tools and guidance that build confidence and make the learning process smoother. Beginners often find putting particularly challenging, but it’s one of the most critical aspects of the game. That’s why we’ve developed a specialized plan to help beginners quickly learn how to putt, giving them a solid foundation to improve their overall performance on the course.
Our beginner’s putting plan breaks down the process into simple, achievable steps, focusing on mechanics, alignment, and consistency. With this plan, new golfers can experience success on the greens much sooner, which is key to keeping them engaged and motivated to continue improving.
For beginners, a proper putting stance is essential to develop consistency and control. Here’s how to set up a good putting stance:
Feet Placement: Start by standing with your feet about shoulder-width apart, which provides a stable base. Your weight should be evenly distributed on both feet to help with balance.
Knees Slightly Bent: Keep your knees soft, with a slight bend to maintain comfort and flexibility. This helps you stay relaxed and avoid tension during your stroke.
Ball Position: Place the ball just slightly forward of center in your stance, towards your front foot (left foot for right-handed golfers). This ensures the putter makes contact with the ball as the clubhead slightly rises, promoting a smooth roll.
Hands Under Shoulders: Let your arms hang naturally, and grip the putter with your hands positioned directly below your shoulders. This creates a straight line from your shoulders down to the club for better control.
Eyes Over the Ball: Bend at the hips so your eyes are directly over or just inside the ball. This positioning helps with alignment and gives you a clear view of the target line.
Grip Pressure: Hold the putter with a comfortable, neutral grip. Your hands should be neither too tight nor too loose to allow for a smooth stroke without tension.
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s get into the fun part: drills! The first drill isn’t about making putts but instead focuses on finding a consistent, repeatable stroke. The goal is to hit a ball from 6 feet away between two goal posts set 8 inches apart. Ideally, we place a hole in the middle to serve as a target.
Here’s how it works:
Setup: Use your Bloodline putter and aim it directly at the center of the hole. Once you're confident your aim is correct, step into your stance.
Focus: The objective is to hit the ball straight between the two goal posts. Don’t worry about speed or making the ball in the hole. The key is to focus on your stroke and alignment.
Repetition: Keep repeating the stroke until you can hit 10 balls in a row between the posts. If you get 10 on the first try, challenge yourself by varying your stroke. Hit some harder or softer while maintaining the same alignment and stroke consistency.
Now that you've learned to consistently hit the ball in the right direction, let’s focus on controlling the speed. Here's a drill that players of all levels use, but it's especially helpful for beginners: the box drill.
Setup: Place four tees to create a 2-foot by 4-foot box with the hole in the center. The box should extend 1 foot to the left and right of the hole, and 4 feet deep. This is your target area where you want the ball to stop. Start by setting up 10 feet away from the hole and aim your putter directly at it.
Focus: The objective is to hit the ball and have it stop in the box. Don't worry about making it in the hole. The focus is on controlling the speed.
Repetition: Keep repeating this drill until you can get 7 out of 10 in the box. If you get that on the first try, challenge yourself by moving back 5 feet.
Final drill combines these two elements. In it we want you focus on making a smooth stroke while controlling your distance. This time lets see some balls end up in the hole. The drill is a simple free throw drill. You will find a flat 6 foot putt and try to make 7/10 in the hole. You've shown you can do it with the previous two so now lets put it to the test.
Setup: Find a 6 foot flat putt. Set up your putter at the hole.
Focus: The objective is to make 7/10 putts. The focus is making a smooth stroke while controlling the speed.
Repetition: Keep repeating util you start making more than you miss. If you can't seem to get it, figure out if it is the speed or the straightness. If you need to, go back to one of the prior drills and do it again.
Bloodline’s Vale HPP is an excellent putter for beginners because of its innovative design and features that address common challenges faced by new golfers. Here’s why:
Standing Design: One of the most unique aspects of the Vale HPP is its ability to stand on its own. For beginners, this is a game-changer because it allows them to step back and check their alignment without holding the putter. Proper alignment is often difficult for new golfers, and this feature helps ensure they are aimed correctly before each stroke.
Enhanced Stability: The Vale HPP’s design provides exceptional stability, which helps beginners maintain control throughout their putting stroke. The balance of the putter reduces wobbling and twisting, making it easier for new players to achieve a consistent stroke, which is key to improving accuracy.
Visual Alignment Aids: The Vale HPP is equipped with clear alignment markings on the top of the clubhead, helping beginners aim more confidently. This visual guide simplifies the process of setting up square to the target, which can be a challenge for new golfers.
Forgiving Face Technology: The putter face is designed to be more forgiving on off-center hits. Beginners often struggle with consistency in their strike, and this feature helps maintain better speed and direction even on imperfect contact.
Confidence Booster: The combination of these features builds confidence for beginners. Knowing they are aligned correctly and have the stability and forgiveness of the Vale HPP makes putting less intimidating and more enjoyable.
By simplifying alignment, improving stability, and offering forgiveness on missed hits, the Vale HPP helps beginners develop better putting skills faster and with less frustration.
