5 Takeaways from the PGA Championship

The finish of the PGA Championship was much more dramatic than most people thought it would be at the start of the day Sunday. Justin Thomas was 7 strokes back and considered a long shot to win. And yet he did (with a little help from Mito Pereira).

Here are a few takeaways we had after watching the last day of the PGA Championship.

Have patience.

According to Thomas, "This place is so tough. It was funny I was asked earlier in the week about what lead is safe and I said 'no lead' because this place is so tough. But if you hit the fairways, you can make birdies and I stayed so patient. I could not believe that I found myself in a playoff."

Sometimes having patience means selecting a different club or not always going for the green, which brings us to our next takeaway.

Play smart.

Disaster struck on the 72nd hole for Mito Pereira when he made an errant swing off the tee and his ball found the stream on the right side of the hole. He ended up carding a double-bogey and found himself tied for third.

If there is a hazard, you may want to think about laying up, so it doesn’t come into play.

Know your limits.

Tiger Woods withdrew from the 2022 PGA Championship after three rounds. Unfortunately, his body gave out on him, and he ultimately fell apart during his third round. He did what was best for him and withdrew.

Knowing your limits means knowing what you’re capable of and what you’re not. Knowing how far you hit each club is helpful in figuring this out. For instance, maybe you shouldn’t play from the back tees. Just sayin…

Stay positive no matter how you play.

After losing in the playoff to Thomas, Zalatoris said, “I’m obviously pretty proud to be sitting in this position considering Saturday, never thought I would have been standing here. I’m pretty excited where my game is at for sure and I know I’m going to get one. Just a matter of time.’’

Pereira said, “It’s not how I wanted to end up this week, but really good result. Played really good. Today I was really nervous. I tried to handle it a little bit but it’s really tough. I thought I was going to win on 18, but it is what it is. We’ll have another one.”

Staying positive will put you in a much better frame of mind the next time you play.

Putting is hard, even for the pros.

Zalatoris had some issues with his putter on the third day, but it came through on the final hole when he needed to sink his putt to ultimately land him in the playoff.

The bottom line is that you should have confidence in your putter whether you’re looking at a clutch putt or just a regular putt for par or birdie.

Bloodline putters are designed to instill confidence every time you putt. Try one and see for yourself.
