Congratulations to Cameron Smith on his victory at the 150th Open Championship!
Have you ever spent hundreds of dollars on a new driver, but then hesitated to spend money on a good putter? While you may get a few extra yards on your drive with a new driver, when you think about it, you only really use it about 14 times max in a round on a standard golf course. If you manage to 2-putt every hole (which is not always easy), you’re using your putter at least 36 times in round. Doesn’t it make sense to invest in a good putter that you have confidence in and helps you make more putts?
As the saying goes, “Drive for show and putt for dough.” Just ask Cameron Smith. His putting was on fire for 3 of the 4 rounds he played during the Open Championship. He earned a cool $2.5 million paycheck for his victory. Here’s a few amazing stats about Smith’s putting:
- According to The Golf Channel, Smith set a putting record on Friday with a total of 253 feet worth of putts for the day, which is the most on record during a PGA Tour round.
- Smith only had 12 putts over his last nine holes, while Rory McIlroy had 18 over his last nine holes.
- His score of 64 on Friday included a 64-foot eagle putt on the par-5 14th hole.
- According to datagolf.com, Smith gained an incredible 6.2 strokes putting on Friday, accounting for 80 percent of the 7.69 shots he gained on the field overall.
How does he do it? Smith commented on Friday, “Just basically looking at the hole and trying to see the ball just dropping in the front there. That’s always been the last thought of mine, is take a long, hard look at the hole and really feel the putt. I don’t take a practice stroke. I just get up there and really feel it.”
That takes a lot of confidence.
You need to have confidence in your putter, your alignment, your ability to read the greens and your speed. That takes practice. And a good putter.
Bloodline putters take alignment out of the equation so you can concentrate on reading the greens and getting your speed dialed in.
The stand-up ability of a Bloodline putter enables you to aim at the target from the optimal aim position. When your body is positioned looking down the target line directly from behind the putter with your eyes parallel to the horizon, you are in the most accurate aim position. By letting go of the putter and walking behind it you can see exactly where your putter is aimed. This simple routine allows you to check and correct your misaimed putts which reduces your margin of error and increases your confidence and the probability of making more putts.
