Els Claims First Senior Major Title at Firestone
Ernie Els, the ever-popular "Big Easy” and longtime Bloodline Golf supporter, etched his name into senior major history last Sunday, capturing the Kaulig Companies Championship at Firestone Country Club. This emotional victory marked his first major win since joining the PGA TOUR Champions circuit.
Els, 54, closed the tournament with a 2-under 68, edging out Y.E. Yang by a single stroke. The final round saw Els showcase the resilience that defined his career. Despite a bogey on the par-5 16th, he displayed nerves of steel, parring the final two holes to secure the victory.
"It was a nerve-wracking final couple of holes," Els admitted afterward. "But this win feels amazing. It's been a long time coming."
This triumph caps a remarkable week for Els. Earlier in the week, while testing shafts in preparation for the upcoming Open Championship, he discovered a key swing adjustment that led to consistent ball striking throughout the tournament. His putter also proved to be a reliable weapon, coming through during critical moments.
Els' victory at Firestone carries added significance due to the course's history. Despite never having won on the course during his PGA Tour days, he displayed a newfound comfort at Firestone.
"This course has always been a tough challenge," Els said. "But I felt good here this week. Playing well on a course with this much history makes the win even sweeter."
The victory was Els’ sixth on PGA TOUR Champions and his third this season, propelling him to the top of the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings. It also secures him a berth in the 2025 Players Championship. More importantly, it reignites his competitive fire and sets the stage for a potentially intriguing Open Championship at Royal Troon this week.
One of the ways that Ernie prepares for these big tournaments is by using his Bloodline R1-J putter during practice to calibrate his posture and eyes.
Bloodline technology takes alignment out of the equation by making it possible for a player to clearly see where the putter is aligned because they can walk behind it while it stands alone. Once you make sure you’re properly aligned with your target when you start the putt, you can calibrate your eyes to your target.
We congratulate Ernie on his victory, and we’re excited to see what he can achieve next.
