The Charles Schwab Cup Championship: A Showdown for Golf Legends

This weekend, the golfing world turns its attention to Phoenix, Arizona, as the Charles Schwab Cup Championship is underway at the Phoenix Country Club. This prestigious event is the final tournament of the PGA TOUR Champions season and the third and final event of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, used to determine the annual Charles Schwab Cup Champion.

A Battle of the Legends

The championship will feature 35 of the top 36 players on the Charles Schwab Cup points list, ensuring a star-studded field of golfing legends. Golf fans can expect to see some of the biggest names in the sport, including:

  • Ernie Els: The World Golf Hall of Fame member enters the event ranked No. 1 in the Charles Cup Standings and is looking to capture his first Charles Schwab Cup.
  • Steven Alker: The defending champion of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship is looking for his ninth PGA Tour Champions title this week along with the Charles Schwab Cup title.
  • Padraig Harrington: The newly inducted World Golf Hall of Fame member and 2022 winner of the tournament, heads into the event in fine form having won the Simmonds Bank Championship two weeks ago.
  • Bernhard Langer: The World Golf Hall of Fame member and six-time Charles Schwab Cup winner is a perennial contender and a true legend of the game.

In addition to Els, Alker and Harrington, the other players that still have a mathematical chance of winning the Charles Schwab Cup are Stephen Ames, Y.E. Yang, Richard Green, Senior Open champion K.J. Choi, Ricardo Gonzalez, Paul Broadhurst and Jerry Kelly.
